You guys, I had the hardest time coming up with a plan for Hadley’s first birthday. The funny thing is that when I finally chose it, I realized the theme had been there all along. For goodness sake, her middle name is ROSE! The theme for a first birthday as a garden party clearly fit, especially for a June baby girl. I found these adorable Fancy Free Finery items and ran with it! As always, what I share with you is budget friendly with a little DIY:
Simple and Sweet First Birthday Garden Party.

Honestly, we could not have asked for better weather. The sun shone from 5-7 pm in the most glorious way. The tables and chairs were set up under the shade of one of our dozens of trees in the backyard and the kids played freely on the swing set. But at 7 pm, as if on cue, the clouds rolled in, we grabbed everything and the birthday baby and raced inside just as it began to downpour. Good thing our party was only supposed to be 2 hours long!

Simple Party Details

The fact that our lot sits next to woods and our neighbors haven’t cut down the huge Magnolia tree that cascades into our yard helped a lot as far as decor goes. Jake and a friend heaved our homemade wooden farm table outside and that is where we set up all the food, drinks and dessert. Our tables were lines with teal table clothes that took the edge off my pink decor (I love pink to a point).

As much as burgers and dogs are in this time of year, we had already eaten our share and wanted something a little more “elegant” for a garden party but hearty enough to feed grown men.

First Garden Birthday  Smash Cake

The smash cake didn’t get as smashed as I expected but it sure was a cute sight! Hadley looked so adorable in her headband and the cake looked how I imagined complete with the matching cake banner both from Fancy Free Finery! We did a separate smash cake a week later so that I could get some more special shots (those are the bottom photos!).
